Crispy Chicken Fingers with Homemade Tartar Sauce

These oven-baked chicken fingers are golden, crunchy, and full of flavor—perfect for both kids and adults. Paired with a zesty tartar sauce, they make a satisfying snack, appetizer, or main dish.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Tenders:

  • 1 kg chicken breast, sliced into strips
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1–2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 chicken broth cube, crushed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3–4 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Tartar Sauce:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 2 tbsp pickle relish
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, cornstarch, flour, 1 tsp salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and crushed chicken broth cube.
  3. Beat the egg in a separate bowl.
  4. In a third bowl, mix panko breadcrumbs with dried parsley and 1/2 tsp salt.
  5. Dip each chicken strip into the milk mixture, then the egg, and finally coat well with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Arrange the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and fully cooked.
  8. While baking, prepare the tartar sauce by combining mayonnaise, lemon juice, sugar, parsley, pickle relish, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Mix until smooth.
  9. Serve chicken fingers hot with tartar sauce and optional tomato sauce on the side.
