This Cauliflower, Potato, Cheese, and Chicken Gratin is the ultimate comfort food, combining tender vegetables, savory chicken, and a creamy cheese sauce. Perfect for a hearty family meal or a special occasion!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cauliflower, cut into small florets
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices
  • 200g chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 200g grated cheese (Gruyère, Emmental, or Cheddar)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Bread crumbs
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Steam the Vegetables:
    Steam the cauliflower florets for 5 minutes. Steam the sliced potatoes for 10 minutes until tender.
  3. Make the Béchamel Sauce:
    In a pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir to make a roux. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Let the sauce thicken.
  4. Add the Cheese:
    Stir in half of the grated cheese into the béchamel sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Layer the Gratin:
    In a baking dish, layer the steamed potatoes, followed by the cauliflower, and then the chicken. Repeat the layers.
  6. Top and Bake:
    Pour the béchamel sauce over the layers. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and the remaining grated cheese on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Pro Tip:
For an extra crispy top, broil the gratin for the last 3-5 minutes of baking.
