Cheddar Cheese Biscuits

Flaky, buttery, and loaded with sharp cheddar, these biscuits are a savory delight. Whether served warm with butter or alongside soups and stews, they’re a comforting, cheesy addition to any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (plus more if needed)
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives or parsley (optional)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in Butter: Add cold butter cubes. Use a pastry cutter or fingers to work it in until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Cheese and Herbs: Stir in shredded cheddar and herbs if using.
  5. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and mix just until a shaggy dough forms. If too dry, add more buttermilk a tablespoon at a time.
  6. Form Biscuits: Turn dough onto a floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick round and cut with a biscuit cutter or glass. Reroll scraps and repeat.
  7. Bake: Place biscuits on the baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Brush with Butter: Remove from oven and immediately brush tops with melted butter.
